MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
With no formal training, Kathy enjoyed hours at her hobby. So much so that she was asked to do sign lettering for businesses earning spending money as a teenager.
For 12 years or better, Kathy “Painted the Town” as the Evening Telegram described her in one of their several articles featuring her during that time of seasonal window painting.
Kathy started her window painting sideline by offering to paint a Christmas Greeting on the window of a local restaurant she worked at in her teens. Business owners in Herkimer began hiring her to paint theirs also for Christmas; Easter and Halloween.
In 1978 she attended Cosmetology courses, becoming a Master Colorist and Stylist. At that time, she placed her hobby aside while she raised her 3 children and pursued her career and eventually owning her own successful salon.
Semi-retired in 2010, Kathy decided it was time to get back to her hobby and take classes in oil painting. That’s when she enrolled in a class offered at M.V. C. A. with Kathryn Bartscht, a certified Bob Ross instructor.
Kathy quickly found a new and exciting passion in the world of oils.
After 4 years she attended classes offered by the popular and well-known artist and author, Wilson L. Bickford. With his encouragement in 2016 she enrolled in his intense teaching seminar to become a certified Wilson Bickford Trained Teacher. This enabled her to now instruct classes of her own, teaching his “Fun and Fast” projects and techniques along with her own projects.
Kathy has exhibited her work at our own M.V.C.A.’s; CNY Arts Center in Fulton, NY; the Herkimer Co. Fair; Utica Library and NYS Fair.
Along with selling her work, she has received numerous first place and high point score awards.
For the 4th year in a row, Munson Williams Proctor has selected her work to take part in their juried M-W-P Annual Arts Festival sidewalk Arts Show.
