BART CARRIG

Bart Carrig’s Artist’s Statement:

I am, for the most part, a nature photographer. My local emphasis lies in the rich life patterns of flora and fauna in the Northeast, where I enjoy the beauty of the trails, streams, forests, lakes, rivers and mountains of the Adirondacks.

But there is much to be said for the near opposite in the Southwest: the eons reflected in sand and stone; and the grand vistas of the National Parks in Utah, Colorado, and Arizona. I’ve also ventured tiny the mountains of the west; the Rockies of Colorado, the Grand Tetons, the Olympics and the Sierra Nevada. I’ve also enjoyed the merger of both east and west in the rainforests and sea-stacks of the Pacific Northwest, and I’ve ventured into the winter wonderlands of Yellowstone National Park.

I find all of the glory and the universe in each of these locations.

But as much as I enjoy the occasional good fortune of capturing by camera the unusual features or conditions found in each of these locations, what I really hope to capture for the viewer is the unique beauty of these places, as well as a sampling of the awe and enjoyment I felt being there. For me, the effort, the travails, the planning, the timing, the runs, crawls and climbs, the early rising, in equal parts add to both the experience and the reward.

As John Muir wrote: “When you tug on a thing in nature, you find it attached to the rest of the world”.
